Ex-Nervosa members venture into new territory with the Death Metal offering CRYPTA!

CRYPTA offers an angry sound monster of the highest class: The newly formed, all-female Brazilian-Dutch death metal unit will cause quite a stir in the scene with their long-awaited debut, Echoes of the Soul.

Founded in June 2019, the four-piece lineup consists of singer and bassist Fernanda Lira and drummer Luana Dametto (both former members of the thrash metal formation NERVOSA), as well as highly talented guitarists Sonia Anubis (Cobra Spell, ex-Burning Witches) and Tainá Bergamaschi (ex-Hagbard). The four power women are no strangers to the scene and bring a wealth of experience from previous and current projects to CRYPTA. The new album provides an insight into the tightly woven sound corset and reveals distinct elements of extreme and black metal.

Atmospheric and menacing, the 55-second intro 'Awakening' prepares the listener for the upcoming uncompromising brutality of Echoes of the Soul and fills the death metal machine with dark, fiery fuel. The significant sound texture, comprised of various death metal sub-genres and nuances of classic thrash, becomes apparent right from the start of the album, reflecting the infernal aura of the 10-track debut. CRYPTA unleashes powerful sound demons and nourishes the intense, explosive energy with furious guitar riffs, Fernanda Lira's unmistakable vocal color, and menacing drums. Tracks like 'Starvation,' 'Kali,' and 'Blood Stained Heritage' ignite an uncontrollable storm of pure rage and aggression, while songs like 'Under The Black Wings' and 'Dark Night Of the Soul' convey the message of pure brutality in a dangerous atmosphere. 'Death Arcana' stands out with expansive solos reminiscent of earlier times but seasoned with a modern twist. The album closer, 'From The Ashes,' underlines the full extent of the impressive teamwork of the band: Lira's haunting vocals, Anubis and Bergamaschi's bold axe attacks, and Dametto's distinctive, intricate drumming literally bring the phoenix rising from the ashes - and the final crackle of this debut album leaves you craving for more.

Echoes of the Soul was recorded in January 2021 at Family Mob Studio (Brazil), mixed by Arthur Rizk (Code Orange, Powertrip, etc.), and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, Sepultura, etc.). The cover artwork was designed by Wes Benscoter, internationally known for his stunning covers for bands like Slayer, Kreator, Black Sabbath, and many more.
