It happened on July 18, 2011, when Deep Purple entered the Arena di Verona, one of the most spectacular concert venues in Europe, through the same entrance once used by gladiators. 'It was like being thrown to the lions,' jokes Don Airey, who fondly remembers that memorable evening. 'Live in Verona' is an extraordinary recording of the entire show, where the hard rock veterans performed together with a full orchestra. The Neue Philharmonie, a 38-member orchestra from Frankfurt, accompanied them throughout the entire European Tour. Deep Purple immediately connected with the orchestra, leading to some unique, outstanding moments during the Tour as the orchestra members surprised the band with original arrangements. 'This created an environment that we all equally enjoyed,' says Airey. Both finally came together and created an electrifying evening.
