'Memento Mori' represents Depeche Mode's 15th studio album, while Gahan and Gore present their first long player as a duo following the tragic death of band founder Andrew 'Fletch' Fletcher in 2022.
Produced by James Ford with the support of Marta Salogni, 'Memento Mori' matured during the early stages of the global Covid pandemic; a period that also had a thematic influence on the songs.
The 12 album tracks bridge a variety of moods and musical textures - ranging from the ominous opener to the resolution at the end, the emotional spectrum expands from paranoia and obsession to mental liberation and joy, as well as numerous emotional nuances.
The single 'Ghosts Again' precedes the release of the album 'Memento Mori' with an impressive preview.
The song is already nothing less than a pure Depeche Mode classic: Dave Gahan's evocative lyrics such as 'wasted feelings, broken meanings... a place to hide the tears we cry' combine with an uplifting, optimistic groove and a hypnotic guitar figure by Martin Gore.
'For me, 'Ghosts Again' captures the perfect balance between melancholy and joy,' says Gahan.
