Aunque el debut de la banda sueca muestra más de las raíces Death Metal de su sucesor "Those of the unlight" es un disco de Black Metal y considerado de los mejor de Mardkuk. La canción "Wolves" por si sola justifica su renombre.
"Dark endless" ya mostraba tendencias Black Metal, sin embargo en términos Death Metal estaba muy marcado. En 1993, "Those of the unlight" hizo de Marduk pioneros del Black Metal sueco junto a Bathory.
